LITTLE ELM -- James Wesley Sims was called home to heaven on Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2011, surrounded by his loving family, pastor and friends.
Funeral: 10 a.m. Saturday in Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Chapel. Interment: Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park. Visitation: The family will receive friends 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
J.W. Sims was born Dec. 17, 1940, in Sudan, Texas. He graduated from Canyon High School and attended West Texas State University. He worked with his dad building and remodeling homes for several years. Later, he went to work for Associated Milk Producers where he worked for over 29 years and was involved in selling cheese, butter, milk and whey powder both domestically and internationally. J.W. loved to fish, go to the drag races as well as Southern Gospel quartet music, especially the bass singers. He and his wife Nancy also loved to travel, going twice to both Europe and Hawaii. But most of all, he loved God, his family and his church, Abundant Life Church in Grapevine. We will miss his smile and loving heart, but know we will be reunited with him in heaven again one day. This love is best illustrated by the poem "Letting Go"; The angels gathered near your bed, so very close to you. For they knew the pain and suffering that you were going through. I thought about so many things, as I held tightly to your hand. Oh, how I wished that you were strong and happy once again. But your eyes were looking homeward, to that place beyond the sky where Jesus held His outstretched arms, it was time to say goodbye. I struggled with my selfish thoughts, for I wanted you to stay. So we could walk and talk again, like we did - just yesterday.
He was preceded in death by his parents, M.B. Sims and Edith Gann Sims; stepmother, Eleanor Howard Sims; brother, John Sims; and his infant sister.
Survivors: Those left to cherish his memory are wife of 27 years, Nancy Sims; children, Jamie DiNapoli, Chris Sims, Scott Jackson and wife, Kerri, Christie Hill and husband, Chris; grandchildren, Jason York and wife, Samantha, Julianna DiNapoli, Cameron Hill, Brady Jackson; and great-granddaughter, Emma York.

He lived his Christian belief without reproach.
He will be greatly missed.

I will always have very fond memories of Jimmy. When he was very young, he and his Mom were living in Amarillo while his Dad was serving in the Navy in China. My family went to see them one time and Jimmy was so glad to see us that he just dropped to the ground and rolled. Another memory: the place we lived at the time had a cistern (an underground pit to collect rainwater) that had a board cover that was on the walk up to the porch. Jimmy was very young then too and he was afraid to step on that cover. So I remember carrying him around on my hip a lot especially when we entered the house. J.W. and I consumed many Chaps mushroom cheeze burgers at Chaps with all the trimmings. I always told him he was the reason I had heart by pass. He always said he never did force feed me. He was a super, loyal friend. He will be great missed by all!

Since J.W. has been sick, I have often thought about that evening that the four of us went into Amarillo to eat barbeque. That was such a nice evening--lots of great conversation. Walter and J.W. had so much to visit about concerning AMPI.

It is hard to believe that the Sims family that was once such an important part of my life is now gone. I will treasure the memories.

The covered dish that once sat on Eleanor's coffee table still sits on mine, and I think of her and MB every time I look at it. Love, Janice
