Dion Matthews was born on December 12th, 1971 in Omaha, Nebraska to the union of Jessie Owens and Lee Dan Matthews. Dion moved to Portland, Oregon of 1983, along with his mother and brothers James Matthews and Milton Brandy of Portland, Oregon.

Dion was employed by Grace Land Nursing Home as a certified care giver and a licensed massage therapist. He was also a DJ and he loved his music.

Friends and family describe Dion as kind, loving, caring, funny, sweet and always full of joy and laughter. He was a proud father, loyal brother, uncle, and nephew and a good friend to all. Dion always went the extra mile for anyone and was loyal and kind to his loved ones.

A big kid at heart, Dion enjoyed being around friends and family. He loved entertaining his children, nieces, nephews, brothers and friends. And he especially loved to cook for his friends, with his favorite dish being chicken and rice.

Preceding him in death is his father Jessie Owens and Mother Lee Dan Matthews.

Those left to celebrate his life is his children include children: Jaronte Goldsby, Dion Jr., Landis , Nia Matthews, Davion, Donnell, and Laila Matthews, whom all live in Portland; two brothers: James Matthews and Milton Brandy of Portland; cousin Tim Townsend-Gant, step-brother Lawrence Gunn, close friends Izell Harris and Bill Nelson; also, a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and many other relatives: the Gunn, Wilder, and the Ward families; special companion, Arianna Purifoy; and many more friends and relatives. Dion will be missed dearly.
