Michael E. Donovan, M.D.

Michael Edward Donovan M.D., 62, of Poplar Grove passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 9th, 2012, from AL Amyloidosis. Michael was born on January 3, 1950, to Kathern (Lampley) Donovan and Earl Donovan, the second child of ten children. Michael was finishing pharmacy school when he met his wife of 39 years Catherine Dugan. He received his B.S. in Pharmacy from University of Illinois Chicago, 1973. He graduated from University of Illinois Rockford School of Medicine in 1980. Michael served as a pharmacist in the U.S. Public Health Service on the Navaho Indian Reservation at Chinle, Arizona. He practiced medicine in Waukesha, Whitewater, and Monroe, Wisconsin, and Stockton, Freeport, Kewaunee, Cambridge, Rockford, and most recently as a family practice physician for Monroe Clinic at Durand, Illinois.
Michael loved so many things about life, among them looking at the stars, bike riding, grilling, traveling, Folk music, family history, and taking care of his patients. Most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends.
Michael is survived by his wife, Kate, of Poplar Grove, IL; Children, John of Poplar Grove, IL, Brianna of Madison, WI and Michael (Savannah Hampson) of Urbana, IL; his mother, Kay Donovan of Maple Park, IL; siblings, Patricia Mosley, Gary (Louella), Ken (Vicky), Penny (Ron) Morgan, Wendy Jager, Steve and Paul; his sisters-in-law, Pat (Jerry) Henderson, Margaret (Joe) Farragher, Helen (Ed) Davis; host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, all of whom he loved dearly.
Proceeded in death by his father, Earl and brothers David and William.
Michael's family would like to thank all the physicians and staff at Monroe Clinic and Hospital, the staff of Liberty Dialysis at Monroe and Agrace Hospice Center in Madison, Wisconsin, for their excellent care.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m on Thursday, August 16, 2012, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Durand, IL. Msgr. Eric R. Barr will officiate. Private burial services will be held at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery at a later date. Memorials to Amyloidosis Support Groups Inc., ASG, 501 (c) 3 Charity, 232 Orchard Drive, Wood Dale, IL 60191 and St. Mary Catholic Church, 606 West Main Street, Durand, IL 61024.
Cremation Society of Illinois assisted the family.
