Mildred H. "Millie" Klopfenstein, age 88, resident of Magnolia Terrace, Galion and former Shelby resident died Wednesday, October 31, 2012 in Galion Community Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

Born January 26, 1924 in Willard to John H. and Maude M. (VanScoder) Curns she had been a Willard/New Washington/Shelby resident the majority of her life. A 1941 graduate of Willard High School she was a homemaker most of her life but later was employed as a school bus driver with Buckeye Central and a cafeteria worker at Pioneer JVS retiring in 1978.

Millie was a member of the New Washington Methodist Church, the Woman's Guild, New Washington Mother's Club, Hazel Grove Ladies Aid and volunteered at Heritage Care Nursing home in Shelby. She loved piecing quilt tops for the New Washington Methodist Church and Hazel Grove Ladies Aid, enjoyed needlework, oil painting, cooking, baking, reading, working crossword and jigsaw puzzles. Millie also loved to play community volleyball and Dart Ball with the Methodist Church. She and her husband, Wilbur, retired from Dart Ball at the age of 80. Our Drenny was adored and will be greatly missed by many.

Survivors include her husband, Wilbur H. Klopfenstein of Galion, whom she wed September 10, 1944; her children, Mary Lou (Duane) Dick of Shelby, Nancy (Don Barrett) Reed of Port Clinton, Don (Jeri) Klopfenstein of Hilliard and Paul (Becky) Klopfenstein of Plymouth; five grandchildren, John (Lori) Dick, Alan (Darlene) Dick, Paul (Tammi) Reed, Jennifer (Zach) Bell, Nathan Klopfenstein; six step grandchildren, Brian Smith, Lisa (Cass) Gwirtz, Matt Bradford, Cory (Carrie) Barrett, Jamie Barrett and Eric (Lydia) Barrett; 12 great grandchildren, Jason, Kevin, Ryan, Laura, Katie, Alex, Trevor, Derek, Parker, Seth, Brianna and one due to be born on November 8, 2012; three sisters-in-law, Lola (Klopfenstein) Miles of Kensington, MD, Agnes Klopfenstein of Falls Church, VA and Anne (Klopfenstein) Kuhn of Willard; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Helen Selander of Sandusky and one niece, Sandra Dunlap.

A memorial service will be held 12:00 PM Saturday, November 10, 2012 at the First Church of God, 3616 St. Rt. 39, Shelby with Reverend Scott Blevins officiating. Friends may call at the church from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.

A celebration of Millie's life will be held 1:30 PM Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at Magnolia Terrace, 1110 N. Market Street in Galion, with the staff and residents. A private family burial will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Millie's honor to the New Washington United Methodist Church, 410 S. Center St. New Washington, OH 44854 , Hazel Grove Ladies Aid in care of, Pat Baird, 5689 St. Rt. 39 NW, Shelby, OH 44875 or to the donor's choice. Barkdull Funeral Home in Shelby is assisting the family with arrangements.
