My deepest sorrow for the loss of your brother, John, (alas) Rocky.
My memory of John is when he would come to my home for a hair cut on Cedar Road. Many years ago. all we would do is laugh. What a great memory.

character - a Beautiful Soul with a huge heart. We loved him alot. Please accept

fond memories of him. He was quite a character, athlete, fisherman
and entertainer. He will be deeply missed by all.

I'm still in shock, as we all are. John is already greatly missed and will always be. It's hard to believe he isn't here with us anymore but I know he will still be present in his family's and friends's hearts. It was pretty evident by the amount of people at tonight's wake that he touched many lives and was loved by a lot of people. It felt like half the town of Salem was there! :)

What I remember about

I'm still in shock, as we all are. John is already greatly missed and will always be. It's hard to believe he isn't here with us anymore but I know he will still be present in his family's and friends's hearts. It was pretty evident by the amount of people at tonight's wake that he touched many lives and was loved by a lot of people. It felt like half the town of Salem was there! :)

What I remember about John: his trademark Nike sneakers and sunglasses, the way he smiled and laughed, fishing, cameras, bringing lobsters over to the house, dancing with him at a relatives wedding (see photos), but most of all: how much he loved my Auntie Jeanne. I'm happy that John and my Auntie had each other in their lives.

And although he left us all way too soon, there's some reassurance in knowing that he is no longer in pain and not suffering anymore.
John, I hope there's lots of fish to catch up where you are. :) I'll "sea" you up there some day! Rest in peace.

Rocky, Rocky, Rocky..... so many memories and so many good times. I hope that you are with your friends and family that left this earth before you. If you can find Bob and Alice up there give them a big hug for me. Enjoy your new life!

John' s wonderful smile, love of the ocean and seeing him row his dinghy through Juniper Cove to go fishing for the big one will be sadly missed. Love you John and so glad to have had you as a friend.

He turned me on to George Harrison, The Band, Dylan, Greg Allman, and countless others. Being 13 yrs younger had its advantages and I'm glad he let me be part of his musical world at such a young age.
I remember watching The Concert for Bangladesh with him at a party he had just for the TV viewing of this event. In our home I must have been about 7. There were Hare Krishnas coming and going, music in the air, and these amazing parties.
My brother was a firefighter for the town of Marblehead and he was, like my father before him, very, very proud of it-and one of the best. He was indeed a hippy, but he was also a fantasic swimmer and a champion at the Salem Ymca back in the day. Most of all, he loved the Sea and loved to be on the water. On his 22 foot boat, he managed with only the help of one other friend, and his 11 yr old son, to catch a 900 lb tuna fish. He caught about 6 tunas over the course of these expeditions, all over the 500 lb range. He was well known in the Salem Willows community and on the waters of Salem harbor and various boating communities. He was quite a character. Many people have wondered how he got the nick name "Rocky", and most folks that met him never knew him as anything but. He got the nick name at his Jr. Prom where he somehow managed to get up with the band performing and sing a rollicking version of "Rocky Raccoon" while stripping down to nothing. After this epic Kerfluffle the name stuck.
I'm sad but thankful that I had him as my rock star, fire-man hero, best dancer in town big brother. He loved me so very much. We don't get to pick our families, but if I could have picked anyone in the world to be my brother it would have been you John. Catch ya later...-ML
