Condolence & Memory Journal

praying for the family ~ don't think i saw dan one time since graduating w/ him back in late may '75, or was it early june ~ being lined up alphabetically, dan and i stood next to each other in the jr high lunch line--best i recall, that's when i first met him ~ i don't remember what 2 introverted 7th graders talked about--i was pretty quiet in those days, so there might have been a lot of silence ~ praying for y'all

My deepest condolences to Meri Beth, Lance, Chantelle, Don, Rod, Jeff, Lisa & families. I've thought of you all often. Unfortunately, even as cousins, you lose touch with each other, but as my Dad kept me updated on Danny, I kept you close in my thoughts & prayers. Meri Beth, truly you were a gift to each other. I like to think of Danny now, leaping & jumping with his Mom & all others who have passed on before, unencumbered in their heavenly bodies. What a joy that must be!! I wish you all comfort & peace in the days & weeks ahead, as you move forward, missing Danny in your lives. God bless.

To the Wilhelm Family, There are so many wonderful memories of Dan as he was a big part of our lives, he spent over half of his life with us, boating, skiing, camping, holiday gatherings of all of our families and many trips to Yankton SD. Our children grew up together and grew to love Dan as well. We were all so blessed to have known Dan in this way and spend so much time with him. Long before the diagnosis, Dan was loved in our family from the beginning, during the onset, and now to the end. I have a beautiful niece and nephew I would like to thank him for, and sharing his life with us. May God bless and keep you in his loving arms during this time. Teri

Mari Beth & family My condolences and sympathy go out to all of you. May God bless you all. I met Dan & Mari Beth in 2010 at a Huntington's Advocacy Meeting in Fargo. I had just lost my husband to Huntington's in December of 2009 and could visualize what they were going through already then and what was possibly to come. It's a very horrible disease and hopefully someday there will come a cure for Huntington's with all the Research being done at this time partly because of this Advocacy Group. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Lucille Winkler

Don't grieve for me,for now I'm free I'm following the path God laid for me I took his hand hand when I heard him call I turned my back and left it all. I could not stay another day to laugh,to love,to work or play Tasks left undone must stay that way I found that peace at the close of day. If my parting has left a void Then fill it with remembered joy. A friendship shared,a laugh,a kiss, Ah yes these things I too will miss. Be not burdened with lines of sorrow, I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow. My life's been full,I savored much, Good friends, good times, aloved ones touch. Perhaps my time seemed all too brief Don't lengthen it now with undoe grief Lift your heart and share with me God wanted me now: He set me free.

I met Dan through my brother Marvin Schilling, an employee for Dan. I felt I knew Dan because my brother would tell me over and over of the kind things Dan did for him while he was employed at the auto dealership. Brother Marvin was much older than Dan but looked to Dan as a mentor. Marvin said repeatedly "the world would be so much better if everyone would treat people like Dan treats me". A tribute to someone special.

I had the greatest privilage of being able to meet dan. He was a great guy. He was always happy when I seen him. He didnt let his illness stop him! He was strong, loving and generous. When I was over at Meribeth and Dans house one evening with my daughter Rylie, Meribeth took me upstairs to visit with Dan. He was always happy and was always willing to talk. When Meribeth helped Dan out of his bed you could just see the love and trust that Dan has for Meribeth. He always knew that she was there for him. You could also see the love that Meribeth has for Dan when helping him and talking to him. She always called him hun and that stuck out the most to me. Dan will be greatly missed and I am so honored to have met him and Meribeth.

Wilhelm Family you are all in my thoughts and prayers. You can shed a tear that he is gone or you can smile because he lived. You can close your eyes and pray he will come back, or you can open your eyes and see all he has left. Your heart can be empty because you cannot see him or you can be full of the love he shared. You can turn your back on tomorrow and live for yesterday, or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday. You can remember him and only that he is gone or you can cherish his memory and let him live on. You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back, or you can do what he would want: smile, open your heart, and go on. Hope this helps, Becky

Meribeth, that was a very nice obituary you wrote for Dan!! When you asked me if I'd help Dan out, that was a no brainer to me! He was such a great guy and cared so, so, so much about people! Thanks for letting me take care of him!! He was always so polite to me. I'd sit on his bed and talk to him for long periods of time and he knew everything I was saying. I never told you this, but one time I sat on his bed and told him how much Meribeth loved him and tears ran down his face...that's how I knew he was listening and understanding everything I was saying. We had such good visits and I'm so happy now that he no longer has to suffer from huntington's!! I want to give a donation but I don't know where to. Please call me and tell me who helped Dan so I can pay it forward their way!! My condolences go out to all of Dan's family and friends, but especially to my friend/co-worker, Meribeth!!
