Alice (Aanestad) McKeighan, 86, of Williamsburg, VA passed away on July 10, 2012. She was predeceased by her mother, Margaret Christopher Aanestad and her father, A. Palmer Aanestad, her sister, Mary M. Aanestad Lee, nephew, David P. Lee, first husband, Leslie Robbins Schureman, in Sun City, AZ, and by her second husband, Raymond Albert McKeighan, in Williamsburg, VA.
She is survived by her niece and nephew, great-nieces and nephew, cousins, dear friends, and beloved cat.
Alice was born in Sherman, SD on May 5, 1926. She spent the first two years of life there, and then moved to the Washington, D.C. area. Her young life was spent there, where she completed the first through fifth grades in McLean, VA; completed sixth and seventh grades in Washington, D.C.; and eighth and ninth grades in Berkeley, CA; and tenth through twelfth grades in Washington, D.C., graduating from Western High School in June 1944. She attended Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD, and American University in Washington, D.C.
Her primary career was in the federal government. Her most rewarding time was as Assistant Executive Officer in the National Center for Health Statistics and other administrative positions in the Public Health Service and the Bureau of Drugs.
Alice greatly enjoyed choir work in the Cathedral Choral Society, National Lutheran Chorus and in church choirs (e.g., St. John's, St. James', and Bruton Parish). While living in Arizona, she was on the Board of the Arizona Humane Society for 17 years, serving as Vice President. She also served as President of the Arizona Humane Society Auxiliary for three years, as well as serving on the Boswell Hospital Auxiliary in Sun City, AZ.
During her married life, Alice lived in Bethesda, MD, Sun City, AZ, Mitchell, SD, Northern Virginia, and Williamsburg, VA.
Services will be held at Bruton Parish Episcopal Church in Williamsburg on Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at 1 PM, followed by a reception at the Alvin P. Anderson Auditorium at Williamsburg Landing. Alice's final resting place will be at Sunland Memorial Park in Sun City, AZ.
