Vail, Beth Noland, 68, a resident of Mobile, died Sunday, February 19, 2012 after a brief battle with cancer.
Beth moved to Mobile as a young girl from Shaker Heights, Ohio. She attended Julius T. Wright and Arizona State University. She married Andrew Jackson Vail Jr. in 1962, and pursued a career as an agent with Roberts Brothers Realty where she was frequently top producer. She later took a position with the Mobile County Property Appraisers office as the first female appraiser, a position she held for 20 years.
Beth had a real love for life. She traveled through Europe, China, Tibet and other exotic places. She enjoyed bringing home souvenirs to her family and friends. She had an adventurous spirit and would try anything once. She was well known to all as the life of the party and was always up for a cookout or happy hour at the Blues Tavern. She claims friends in both Mobile and Jackson, MS where she spent many of her later years.
Beth had a soft place in her heart for animals and leaves behind her beloved pug, Skittles. Funny stories about Beth frequently included her pig, goats, horses and puppies. She loved to garden and putter in the yard. She shared her Satsumas every spring after her tree burst with them.
Beth was preceded in death by her father George K. Noland. She is survived by her mother Mary M. Noland; two sisters and a brother, Susan (Bill) Houston, Nancy Noland and George K. "Chip" Noland, Jr; a daughter and two sons, Mary Vail (James) Hoskinson, Andrew J."Drew" Vail III and George L."Lat" Vail; a grandchild, Brandon Miles Vail, and many nieces and nephews.
In remembrance of Beth, we will toast her well-lived life at the Blues Tavern, 2818 Government Blvd, Mobile, March 3, 2012, 4pm - 6pm. Donations in Beth Vail's name may be made to the Friends of the Mobile Animal Shelter, adoptapetmobile.org. View guestbook at www.pinecrestfuneralhome.com.
