Mr. James Brooks Butterworth, age 86, of Douglasville, GA passed away Sunday, November 18, 2012. He was born November 13, 1926 in Canton, GA, son of the late H. H. and Martha Coveney Butterworth. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Anitria Redd. Mr. Butterworth was a Navy Veteran serving his country during World War II. He received his Masters degree from Vanderbilt University and his teaching career spanned 35 years in Gwinnett, Gilmer and Union Counties, finishing his career in Cobb County. He coached high school sports for 10 years. He served as a deacon for many years and was very active in many church capacities and especially enjoyed outreach ministries. He was presently a member of Ephesus Baptist Church. He also loved gardening and was an avid sports fan.

He is survived by his beloved wife of more than 58 years, Evelyn Butterworth; son-in-law, Raymond Redd; grandson, Chris Redd and his wife Courtney; granddaughter, Hannah Redd; brother, Gene Butterworth; one niece and two nephews.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 from 2 – 4 PM and from 6 – 8 PM. The funeral service will be Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Ephesus Baptist Church with Dr. Billy Godwin and Reverend Clifton Duvall officiating. Interment will follow at Kennesaw Memorial Park, Marietta, GA.
