Carl E. Short went to be with his Lord and God, Jesus Christ, Aug. 16, 2012, at his home with his family at his side. Carl was born in Ypsilanti, MI, Feb. 9, 1940, to Carl O. and Alice (Youmans) Short. He was a graduate of Ypsilanti High School class of 1958. He began working as a stockboy for McLellans variety store shortly thereafter at which time he met his soon to be wife, Eleanor F. (Porter) Short. They were united in marriage Feb. 11, 1960. Carl entered the managerial program and managed his first store at Holland, MI, 1961. In his 35 years with the McLellans Corp. he also managed stores in Stevens Point, WI; St Paul, MN; Merrill, WI; and Menominee, MI. In 1991 he purchased the Merrill McLellans store renaming it Short's 5 & 10. Carl & Eleanor closed the store in May 2003 and enjoyed having time to visit friends and family before the onset of Alzheimer's. Carl was an active member of Lighthouse Pentecostal Church, Wausau, and was a Lincoln County Board Supervisor 2006 to 2009. He is survived by his wife; 3 daughters; C. Dawn (John) Bynum, Debra (James) Reece and Diann Taunton; 7 granddaughters, 7 grandsons and 3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Dan, and infant sister, Mary Alice. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, Aug. 21, at Lighthouse Pentecostal Church, 1525 Townline Rd., Wausau, WI, with Pastor Derrald Hilderbrand officiating.Visitation will be 4 to 8 PM Monday, Aug. 20, at Waid Funeral Home, 301 Eagle Dr., Merrill, and again from 10 AM to the time of service Tuesday at the church.Burial will take place at Merrill Memorial Park. Waid Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at www.waidfuneral.com.
