Mr. Chester Dempsey, 62, passed away on Tuesday, July 24, 2012, at his residence in Brandon, Mississippi. Visitation will be Friday, July 27, 2012, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home in Louisville, Mississippi. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 28, 2012, in the Nowell-Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Fred Frazier, Jr. and Derek Hall officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Dempsey was born on March 9, 1950. He began his career in transportation at the young age of 18 by driving a cattle truck cross country. Chester's passion for the transportation industry led him to start his own business in the early 1980's; this business grew and in 1983, he incorporated Liberty Transportation. Mr. Dempsey went on to employ over 150 individuals in Winston County. He served on numerous committees involving the economic development of Winston County. He later retired as the CEO and owner of Liberty Transportation, a Shriner and a Mason.
Mr. Dempsey is survived by his wife of 39 years, Mona Goleman Dempsey of Brandon, Mississippi. He is also survived by his daughter, April Herrington and husband, Stevie; and his two sons, Raymond Dempsey, II and Sammy Dempsey, all of Louisville, Mississippi. Also surviving Mr. Dempsey is his mother, Minnie Selma Dempsey; his two sisters, Judy Stovall and Gail Dempsey, as well as his brother, Gerald Ray Dempsey and wife, Vicky, all of Louisville, Mississippi. Chester has six grandchildren: Brodie Aman and husband, Bradley; Sam Dempsey; Luke and Analeigh Dempsey; and Jake and Emmie Herrington. Mr. Dempsey was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Dempsey; his sister, Shirley Dempsey Holmes; and his nephew, Chris Kitchens.
Pallbearers will be Brandon Stovall, Brett Kitchens, Chad Kitchens, Ronnie Vowell, Justin Dempsey, Jarrod Dempsey, Jason Ellingburg, and Michael Huntley. Memorials may be made to the Blair E. Batson Children's Hospital, The Division of Public Affairs, University of Mississippi Medical Center, 2500 North State Street, Jackson, MS 39216. Arrangements are under the direction of Nowell-Massey Funeral Home, 724 North Columbus Avenue, Louisville, MS.
