Cambridge, NY Dennis D. DuPont, 68, died unexpectedly Sunday, July 15, 2012 at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center. He was the beloved husband of Claudia (Michelsen) DuPont.

Born Tuesday, November 23, 1943 in Southampton, Long Island, NY, he was the son of the late Edward J. DuPont, Jr. and Milda A. (Stanevich) DuPont. After graduating from high school in East Hampton, Dennis joined the United States Navy, a family tradition. He served during the Vietnam era, from 1963 until he was honorably discharged in 1969. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal with one bronze star.

Dennis and Claudia were married on May 29, 1976 and made their home in East Hampton, NY where Dennis had his own painting contracting business for over 30 years.

While looking for retirement property in the Saratoga Springs area four years ago, they discovered Cambridge and fell in love with the peaceful, rolling hills and quiet valley. Here he was able to enjoy the birds, deer and other wildlife that he enjoyed so much. He was always an avid outdoor sportsman enjoying hunting and fishing.

Winters were spent in Venice, Florida where Dennis enjoyed kayaking on the intercostals waterways and model boat building. He always had a profound love of the sea.

Dennis was a communicant of Most Holy Trinity Church in East Hampton and St. Patrick's Church in Cambridge.

He was a lifetime member of VFW Post #550 in East Hampton and a member of the United States Submarine Veterans.

Along with his wife of 36 years, he is survived by a sister, Carol Knecht and husband Michael of Bayport, L. I.; a niece, Lauren Knecht of San Francisco, CA; three brother-in-laws, Kris Michelsen of Montauk, L. I., Gary Michelsen of Grand Gorge, NY and Erik Michelsen of Ballston Lake, NY and their families.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Most Holy Trinity Church in East Hampton on Friday, July 27, 2012 at 10 AM. Burial with military honors will follow at Most Holy Trinity Cemetery.
