Joan passed away on Sunday July 22, 2012 at her residence in Los Angeles, with her niece, Linda, many friends, and the sisters of the Immaculate Heart Community by her side. Born to George and Mary Ackerman on August 5, 1926 and raised on a farm in Hector, Minnesota.She is survived by her sisters Ann Schmidt of Minnestoa, Lorraine O'Brien of Massachusets, brother Jim Ackerman of Arizona and her special niece Linda Fox of Californina and many other nieces, nephews, family and friends.
She was baptized and confirmed at St.Johns Catholic Church in Hector Minnesota. She graduated from Buffalo Lake High School in Minnesota and went on to college prior to starting her career.
Moving to Los Angeles in the early 1950's with Linda's mother, Irene, she started her career in sales with Pan American airlines where she continued for over 28 years
Joan was preceeded in death by her parents, George and Mary Ackerman, siblings Al Ackerman, Helen Haberkorn, Christine Hermes, Mary Foley, Sr. Jeannie, Kay Buechner, Rose Perry, Anita Ackerman, Irene Fox and Dorothy Walsh.
Family requests that in lieu of flowers, that donations in Joan's memory be made by check to the " Immaculate Heart Ccommunity Residence" 5515 Franklin Ave. Los Angeles, California 90028 , or the" Monestary of the Angels" , at:1977 Carmen Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90068 Reference Joan Ackerman's name on your contribution check.
