Mrs. Elsie Dodson Smith, age 91, of Douglasville, GA, passed away Monday, July 30, 2012. She was born January 23, 1921 in Winston, GA.

Elsie and her class were the first to graduate from the new Douglas County High School in 1937. She married Harold T. Mozley, Sr. in 1939 and after World War II they returned to Douglasville where he was elected Mayor of Douglasville and served as the youngest Mayor in the United States at age twenty-eight. Elsie served as Queen of the Atlanta Temple Daughter of the Nile. She was also the President of the Deviletts, the auxiliary of the Red Devils, Yaarab Temple, Atlanta, GA. Elsie was a long time member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Daughters of the Confederacy. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Douglasville for many years where she taught Sunday School and then was a Charter Member of Heritage Baptist Church in Douglasville. Elsie was an expert seamstress and had a reputation for her banana pudding and coconut cakes. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and loved people, the arts, traveling and history, especially genealogy. Elsie lived a long and happy life, she would often remark what a good life she had and what a wonderful age to be born into.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John Louis and Frances Gore Dodson, her four husbands, Harold T. Mozley, Sr., Clarence Crawford, W. Lane Crocker, and Captain Joe Smith USN Retired, and her son, Harold 'Hal' T. Mozley, Jr.

She is survived by her daughters, Charlotte Mozley Rainwater and husband Terry, Gail Mozley Liles; grandchildren, David Liles and wife Nan, Beth Camp Hembree and husband Bill, Woodward Camp and wife Zandra; great-grandchildren, Justin Liles, Will Hembree, Miles Hembree, Thomas Hembree; brother, Charlie Dodson and wife Barbara; sisters, Pat Smith and husband Louis 'Pete, Betty Dodson Merritt and husband Doyle, Joann Dodson Entrekin; numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, August 2, 2012 from 4-8 PM. The funeral service will be Friday, August 3, 2012 at 2:00 PM in the Rosehaven Chapel with Rev. Gene Fields officiating. Interment will follow at Douglasville City Cemetery.
