Eugene C. Borchardt, 63, Merrill, died Sunday, July 31, 2011 at Woodland Court after a 5 week battle with brain cancer. He was born September 2, 1947 in Merrill to Elaine Borchardt. He married Gloria Raasch June 1, 1968 at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Merrill. Eugene was a 1965 graduate of Merrill Senior High School. He worked as a carpenter in his younger years then joined the U.S. Army. Gene then worked for J.I. Case before starting his own business, E.C. Borchardt Excavating in 1993. He enjoyed hunting, NASCAR, and making maple syrup with his son in law, Andy. Gene adored his grandchildren. He was an active member with the Town of Scott and a board of trustee member of St. Johns. Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Gloria, Merrill; daughter, Krista (Andy) Zelinski, Merrill; grandchildren, Katelyn & Jacob; mother, Elaine Paul, Hamburg; brother, Gary (Karen) Paul, Hamburg; sister, Pam (Terry) Plisch, Hamburg; nephew, Andrew Plisch; nieces, Angie Servi and Ashley Plisch; and Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ray & Leona Borchardt; his mother and father-in-law, Norman & LaVila Raasch, and his step father, Martin Paul. Services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, August 4, 2011 at St. John Lutheran Church, Merrill. Visitation will be from 4-8 PM Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at Waid Funeral Home and again from 10-11 AM before the service at the church. Entombment will follow in Merrill Memorial Park Cemetery. Donations may be made to St. John Lutheran Church or Woodland Court. Waid Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at www.waidfuneral.com.
