Gary Gene Gunter, II of Longwood, Florida, died at home on July 11, 2012 of a heart attack. He was born to Gary Gene Gunter USMC and Elizabeth Ann Lunn Gunter at Orlando Air Force Base Hospital on November 1, 1968. Gary grew up in Seminole County, Florida. At age six, he won the BMX state championship for his age group. As a teenager he spent much time hunting with his Father & the Carroll Smith family all around Florida. At Lake Mary High School he played football and soccer. This is where he developed his love of soccer. When he was 17 years old he entered the United States Marine Corps on the day of the Challenger explosion. Gary became known as "The Bomb Guy" as an Explosive Ordinance Disposal Technician (EOD). He was awarded the combat Bronze Star with valor in "Desert Storm." While in the Corps he played several years as a goalie for the All Marine Corps soccer team. In 2000 at the Miramar Airshow he and his EOD squad set the world record for the longest wall of fire at 2,500 feet that held for 11 years. He was medically discharged as a Staff Sargent in 2001 after 15 years of service.
In the spring of 1989 Gary married Candice Hollingsworth and on November 21, 1989 Gary's eyes opened wide as he became a Daddy to his only son, Gary Gene Gunter III (Tripp). He was a devoted Dad who never missed any event that he was in town for. While in the service, he was also a spirited coach for Tripp's soccer team. Gary shared his die-hard love of the Florida Gators and the Dallas Cowboys with his son. By his example Tripp ... READ MORE →
