Guido DeGregorio

I am thankful that I got the opportunity to know Guido through my husband, Joel and Cathy. Guido had control of our lives every time that Geoffrey and I visited their Lancaster home, as his comfort, health and safety were always a priority.

I have no doubt Guido knew how much love and care were given him by Cathy and Joel. Everyone should be as blessed as he was to have such a caring and loving family surround them in their later years.

Just love you so much and we will see you saturday. RIP little man. You were amazing!

Rest in peace Guido, and know that you are truly loved.

I thought of another great memory of my Dad that I had to share. Quite a few years ago, Joel and I took his parents and my parents to see a Celebrity Impersonator show at the Palmdale Playhouse. They were all really good and we were all having a fun time until the Cher impersonator came on. We never laughed so hard in our life. She had some people scouting in the audience for someone to play Sonny. Guess who

I thought of another great memory of my Dad that I had to share. Quite a few years ago, Joel and I took his parents and my parents to see a Celebrity Impersonator show at the Palmdale Playhouse. They were all really good and we were all having a fun time until the Cher impersonator came on. We never laughed so hard in our life. She had some people scouting in the audience for someone to play Sonny. Guess who they picked? Yep....my Dad! Both my Mom and Dad were big fans of the Sonny and Cher show back in the day. Being that he was only 5 feet tall he made a perfect Sonny. They put a Sonny wig and mustache on him and she started asking him questions about himself which he answered. Then she asked him to sing,"I Got You Babe" with her and they did....of course he didn't know the words so he just kept singing, "I got you baby". I wish we had cell phones back then so I could have gotten a picture because you weren't allowed to take cameras into shows in those days.

My Dad was quite the handyman....he could build anything. One day, about 15 years ago, he came to Joel and my house and I had an ad laying on the kitchen table for something that I wanted to buy. It was a unique wooden holder for many, many pairs of earrings. He said to me, "You don't need to spend money on that, I can build you one for practically nothing." He took the ad home with him and not

My Dad was quite the handyman....he could build anything. One day, about 15 years ago, he came to Joel and my house and I had an ad laying on the kitchen table for something that I wanted to buy. It was a unique wooden holder for many, many pairs of earrings. He said to me, "You don't need to spend money on that, I can build you one for practically nothing." He took the ad home with him and not more than 3 days later......I had one.....and I'm sure it was much better than the one I would have bought from the ad. I still hsve it to this day and will continue to use it for as long as I live.

We would be playing on the quarter machines and all losing. All of a sudden my Dad would say, "Lets go to the dollar machines".....so we took him to the dollar machines. He put in $20 and before it was gone.....he won a $600 jackpot

We would be playing on the quarter machines and all losing. All of a sudden my Dad would say, "Lets go to the dollar machines".....so we took him to the dollar machines. He put in $20 and before it was gone.....he won a $600 jackpot and got this big smile on his face. He took the money out and we went to have dinner. Of course he would not let us pay for dinner since he was a big winner. After dinner we went back to the quarter machines. Same as before none of us were winning anything and my Dad again says, "Let's go to the dollar machines".....so once again we headed for the dollar machines. This time my Dad put in one twenty, then a 2nd twenty, then a 3rd twenty and before the 3rd one was gone he had won an $800 jackpot. He was having so much fun. We weren't winning much this trip but we had a blast seeing him win and having such a great time.

It was agreat pleasure Knowing you enjoyed spending time with you when we were all able to RIP and thank you for giving me my life long friend Cathy.

Ron and I had discussed changing our pitiful 3’x6’ back porch into a proper sized deck. Well, Guido said “let’s do it.” He ignored our protests of him being on vacation and not there to work. So we looked at our plans and bought the materials. It was a lot of work: grading, setting

At 78 years old, Guido showed me what stamina really was. He and Gertie were on vacation visiting Ron, Maggie, and me in the Pacific Northwest. So we looked at our plans and bought the materials. It was a lot of work: grading, setting piers, leveling, working with long planks, etc. Guido did not work fast, he did not work slow, he worked steady. And worked and worked. Ron or I would suggest a morning break or lunch break or to quit for the day, never Guido. It astounded me that day after day he worked at that pace that allowed him to stay at it all day every day. And of course his work was really good. I could tell that he was taking pleasure in the product. Here I was 36 years younger tired and achy with sore muscles. Guido never complained; he just saw what had to be done and did it one step at a time. In fact, when he figured out that I was planning a 6’x20’ garden out front, who do you think was the first one out there with a pick axe and shovel removing rocks? That man could show you such love.

When I eat or see pretzels, I remember your dad. Bernie, I am so sorry for your loss. May the good Lord give you and your siblings comfort. The pictures showed a man content, and who was cared for. Peace to you.

I think what I'll always remember about Uncle Guido was when he came home on leave from the army during World War II, he gave me a small package all wrapped up. It must have taken me a good 20 minutes of frustration to finally get it open. And low and behold was an army type wristwatch. It was my very first watch. I must have been 5 or 6 years old. Heck, I couldn't even tell time yet. But as far as I was concerned he could have given me the world. I was thrilled to pieces.

I dearly loved and still do love that wornderful man. May he rest in peace with my aunt Gerta, his son John, his 5 brothers Joe, Ben (my father),Mike, Tony, Alfred and his mom and dad. Amen.
