J. L. Wideman, 83, of Sumner, passed away Monday, June 04, 2012, at Brentwood Terrace.
Bright-Holland Funeral Home has scheduled services for 2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 7th, at East Paris Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Fortenberry & Dr. Donnie Edwards officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Little Vine Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Wideman, the son of Rev. J. L. "Bill" Wideman & Lois Wartes Wideman, was born April 26, 1929, in Cone, Texas.
He served in the U. S. Navy with a career that spanned twenty-two years. He served during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He was stationed at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. and with CINCPACFLT in Hawaii and later with the Blue Eagle Squadron in Hawaii. Following his retirement from the military he raised cattle and did commercial hay baling and was known as "Haymaker" and was also involved in commercial trucking. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and East Paris Baptist Church where he was a deacon.
His parents preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Camille Cook Wideman, whom he married on Aug. 30, 1953, three children, Gary Wideman of Sumner, Scotty Wideman & wife Justine of Sumner and Janie Sharrock & husband Richard of Novice, grandchildren, Justin & Stephanie Wideman, Curtis Wideman, Connor Wideman, Kristin & Craig Fendley, Jordan & Hailey Sharrock, Meagan & Stoney Musgrove, Jessi Wideman, Ryan & Kourtniee Johnson, Shawna Johnson & Jack Brown and Ryley Johnson, great grandchildren, Parker Wideman, Keegan, Case & Cole Fendley, Addison Sharrock, Mayzie & Andrie Musgrove and Ryder Johnson along with a plethora of friends.
Casket bearers will be: J. T. Stephens, Jimmy Lassiter, Mark Arnold, Mark Buster, Monte Meier, Marion Parker, Michael Julian & Paul Stuart. Honorary bearers will be: Donnie Crutchfield, Paul Bryan, Vester Crutchfield, the 7:30 Golf Buddies and the Men's Adult II Sunday School Class at East Paris Baptist Church.
