Jean Stewart Tallen, 89, recently of Bernardston, MA, passed away Wednesday August 15, 2012 at her home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am, August 25, 2012 at Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 10:00am until time of service. Burial will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Jean was born April 13, 1923 in Maryville, Missouri, the daughter of Dale Stewart and Claire Eliza Kidder. She married George William Tallen on January 15, 1947. She was a loving, devoted wife and mother, and a hardworking business woman remembered by many Columbians as a manager of the Hathman House on old Highway 40 East. She was a beacon of light and cheer for all who knew her, with a caring heart and a love for all creation.
Survivors include her daughter Catherine Claire Tallen of Massachusetts; her son George William Tallen, Jr. (Bill) of Wyoming; granddaughter Ida Marie Tallen of Wyoming; grandson Daniel Tallen Levitch of Massachusetts; first cousin Marylin Cox of Texas; niece Sandra Osborn of Texas; and five nephews, Dale Diggs and Craig Diggs of Columbia, David Diggs of Colorado, Philip Nardo of California, and Don Nardo of Massachusetts. Jean was preceded in death by her infant son, William Stewart Tallen, her parents, her sister Virginia Claire, and her husband George.
