Joan F. Alflen, 82, of Niles, passed away peacefully, at her residence surrounded by her family on Friday, August 3, 2012, after a short illness. She was born February 6, 1930, in Parma, Ohio, the daughter of the late Charles and Ann Baltitus Mandley. She was raised in Parma and married her childhood sweetheart, Herman Alflen. Joan came to Niles, OH, when her husband Herman transferred from Cleveland, OH. She became an avid golfer and enjoyed bowling. She enjoyed Sunday tailgate parties, watching the Browns with her boys and her planning of family get togethers will always be remembered. She will be deeply missed by her loving family; her daughter Nancy (Randall J.) Mishler, of Big Prairie, OH, three sons; Robert (Heidi) Alflen, of Niles, Edward (Star) Alflen, of Windham, and Dale (Donna) Alflen, of Howland. She also leaves behind eight grandchildren, that were the love of her life; Cody, Colleen, Matt, Cara, Amanda, Cylie, Jenna and Amber. She also leaves to cherish her memory, a sister Dorothy (Leonard) Bunyak, of Medina. Joan was preceded in death by her loving husband, Herman, a brother Howard Mandley and a sister Laverne Nornberg. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at 11:30 AM at the chapel at Pineview Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of the Valley.
