Joel H. Hollingsworth 75 of Clinton and Gulfport passed away early Wednesday morning at CMMC in Jackson. Visitation is 5pm-7pm Friday February 24, 2012 at Lakewood Funeral Home, and 1pm Saturday at First Baptist Church in Clinton. Funeral services are 2pm Saturday at the church with interment to follow in Clinton Cemetery.
Joel grew up in the Jackson/Clinton area and was a 1962 graduate of MS College, he later moved to Gulfport. He was in the United States Air Force serving in the 172nd Tactical Airlife Group from 18 Nov 1954-12 Oct. 1984, he retired Lt. Col. He received two Air Force Commendation Medals-one in 1982 for Performance on a Classified Mission for US Southern Command and in 1984 for a development of low altitude Tactical Navigation Training Area.
While living in Gulfport he was employed with MS Power Co. from 1965-1971, and later with the Department Housing Urban Development (HUD). He was active in the Jaycees and was of the Baptist faith. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Joel was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Lucille( Hitt ) Hollingsworth of Clinton and his brother Jack Hollingsworth II. He leaves behind his only son, Chris Hollingsworth and wife Eliana of Memphis and two beloved grandchildren, Conner and Evan.
