JOHN MARSTON GRIBBLE, age 84 years, a former Mayor and resident of Parsons, WV, departed this life Friday afternoon, August 3, 2012 at the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center in Clarksburg, WV.
He was born Friday, May 4, 1928 on a farm in Lost Creek, WV, a son of the late Fred and Tressie Sirk Gribble. He was married to the former Glenna Claudine "Pooch" Shaffer, who preceded him in death.
Surviving are one son, John Patrick "Pat" Gribble of Parsons, WV; one daughter, Catherine Louise "Cathy" Gribble Jones and husband Ronnie of Hambleton; one granddaughter, Kerstin M. Jones; his close friend, Marie Poling; and nieces and nephews.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family having been preceded in death by one brother, James Gribble.
He was a graduate of Tygart Valley High School with the Class of 1952. He was a Veteran of the United States Airforce serving during World War II. He served on the Parsons City Council and served as former Mayor of Parsons during the flood of 1985. He was a former employee of the Cable Company, Black Water State Park, Parsons News and Novelty. He was co owner of J.E.C.D. He was a volunteer van driver for the Veterans. His whole life he enjoyed Ham Radio, his call letters were K8CHW.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Tuesday from 5 to 8PM. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor on Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at 11:30AM. The Rev. J. Michael Lantz will officiate and interment will follow at the Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons, WV, where the H.W. Daniels Post #29 American Legion, the Tygart Valley Post #3647 Veterans of Foreign War and the Tucker Co. Veterans Assoc. will conduct full military honors. The Lohr & Barb Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for JOHN MARSTON GRIBBLE, K8CHW.
