Cooper, Sr. John Samuel, 94, of Varina died Wednesday, September 26, 2012. He is preceded in death by his brother, Melvin Cooper and sister-in-law, Frances Cooper. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Elizabeth Stoneman Cooper; daughter, Elizabeth "Betty" Anderson (Ross); son, John Cooper, Jr.; grandchildren, Susannah and Audrey Anderson and Laura Cooper. Mr. Cooper was the founder and owner of Cooper's Marine, Inc., and was a pioneer in power boat racing for many years. He enjoyed boating with family and friends, and was a member of the VA Power Boat Association. The family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00PM and 6:00-8:00PM, Monday, October 1, 2012 at Nelsen Funeral Home 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond VA 23231. His funeral service will be 11:00AM, Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at Varina Episcopal Church, 2385 Mill Road, 23231. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Varina Episcopal Church.
