Shushan, NY-Louise K. Peck, 90, of Shushan, passed away peacefully Thursday morning, March 15, 2012 at the Hoosick Falls Health Center. Born May 8, 1921 in Cambridge, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Edna (Nelson) Peck. Louise was a 1939 graduate of Salem Washington Academy and attended Bryant College in Providence, RI earning a degree in Secretarial Science in 1941. When Louise finished college, she went to work at Salem Washington Academy in Salem as a secretary. Louise worked at the school for 44 years retiring in 1985. When Louise retired, the school named a day Louise Peck Day in her honor where she spent time with her co-workers and the many students she came across over the years. Louise was delighted to have this day honored in her name. Following her retirement, Louise traveled throughout the world. She also wrote the Shushan news for the Salem Press for many years until the age of 89.
Louise had lived in her home in Shushan since she was eight years old and was a longtime active member of the Shushan United Presbyterian Church where she had served as an Elder.
Louise is survived by a brother, Robert Peck of Ridge, Long island; three nieces, Kathy Contegni of Miller Place, Long Island, Jane Phelps of Shushan and Karen Hall of Cambridge; a nephew, Jeffrey Peck of Greenwich. She is also survived by one great niece and three great nephews, Charles Phelps, Paul Phelps, Christopher Contegni and Laura Contegni.
In addition to her parents, Louise was also predeceased by a sister, Charlotte Cramer and a nephew, Timothy Cramer.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, March 24, 2012 at the Shushan United Presbyterian Church, County Route 64, Shushan with Rev. Jeff Palmer officiating. Interment will be at Woodlands Cemetery in Cambridge.
