Marilyn was born in Milton, Ontario, Canada, to Harold and Agnes Fay. Marilyn had a brother, Alex, who then completed the family of four. Marilyn quit school in 9th grade to stay home and help with her mother who was sick. During this time she also helped her father run his plumbing business in Milton. She helped her father on jobs, and did the bookkeeping for the family business. When Marilyn was 18 years old, her family moved to Orlando, Florida, in the hopes that a warmer climate would help extend the life of her mother who was not expected to live long in the cold winters. It was in Orlando that she met Thomas McCullough who was stationed at McCoy Air Force Base. Tom and Marilyn were married on January 26th, 1957, and celebrated 42 years of marriage before Tom was called home to be with our Lord in November 1999. Tom and Marilyn were blessed with three children: David Wayne, James Harold and Tamara Ann.
Though Marilyn never received a high school diploma, it did not stop her from working at important positions at a bank and the telephone company. Marilyn's greatest success, though, is reflected in her family and friends. In 1955, Marilyn met Naoma, and a life long friendship was born. In 1956, while Marilyn was engaged to Tom, Naoma met and married Bob Sherman. This fearsome foursome lived through joy and pain together, raised their kids' together, truly experienced life together, in a way that does not seem common today. After both Tom and Bob were called Home to our Lord, Marilyn and Naoma were more inseparable than ever. Their love for each other, combined with their love for all others, was evident to all who met them.
Marilyn's three children have gone on to have families of their own, resulting in 8 Grandchildren and 6 Great Grandchildren. But Marilyn's "family" has always extended beyond just her kids and grandkids. David, Jimmy and Tammy often talk about how Marilyn was always involved in their school bands, singing groups, and other groups, and how so many others came to call Marilyn "Mom McCullough". This did not end when the kids graduated high school, and for the decades that progressed to today, Marilyn would still hear "Hello Mom" from 40 and 50 yr olds who were a part of those high school groups.
Marilyn is directly survived by her three children; David (Debi), Jimmy (Sandee) and Tammy (Barry); Naoma Sherman; 8 Grandchildren and 6 Great Grandchildren. But as a living tribute of her love and devotion, Marilyn is survived by all those touched by her generous, Christ like, spirit.
