Dear friends and Colleagues,
I am very sad to learn of Mark's passing. I read about this untimely demise of learned and highly skilled and collaborative peer with a gentle touch and humane engagement with his patients’ colleagues and the community as a whole in the Courant today. We referred patients to each other and consulted on management of patients. Dr. Eleanor Pringle, MD also of Haddam, Mark, and I were also linked by our work in supporting the activities of CT. Psychiatric Society(CPS) and the New Haven, Middlesex Chapter of the CPS. Our discussions even during our drives to and from the meetings were very refreshing and valuable to me.
In terms of his therapeutic style I think the closest approximation I can provide to a well-established model is the Existential psychotherapy that was enunciated and elaborated on by the living master Dr. Irwin Yalom, MD. The wonderful book, "Staring at the Sun” offer several vignettes and great insights into the wisdom and skill of an unselfish, humane and wise human being who chose to get involved with patients in person and on the phone irrespective of the billing codes which forced both professional caregivers and their patients into a mechanistic procrustean framework pursue the important work of building a more complete human experience who can expect to lead lives they can value.
The Community as a whole, including his colleagues and patients and my friend Marks own family have much to be grateful for and cherish. I will miss my friend Mark. I have become a better caregiver and a peer in terms of my interactions in political and professional relationships over the course of my friendship over the past three decades with my friend Mark. I acknowledge also my work with Ms. Candace Wilson when we worked for the same employer Mx Hospital and Health Care System back in 1977.
I bid you a fond farewell. I pray that your spirit will eternally encounter peace and harmony that you tried to help us achieve here in the temporal sphere. I am deeply grateful for this my friend, Mark.

I remember Mark as a really cute little boy when he would visit his grandmother in Bethany, Missouri. His mother, Ruth Ida, also was a good friend and later worked at my fathers drug store. Mark Yates, my cousin, notified me of Mark's passing. My prayers are with you.

I'm very sorry to hear of Dr. Stanberry's passing; I'm thankful that to have known him and shared in some wonderful memories with him and his family. He leaves behind a wonderful family, an absolute testament to a wonderful life.

Dr. Mark Stanberry was one of a kind. He was the most caring, funny and thoughtful person I think I have ever known. I am sad for his family and for all of us who cared and have been in his care. A wonderful Doctor who I will greatly miss. Condolences to Candy, Matt and Kirten.

How sad we were to learn of Dr. Stanberry's passing. He was for many years one of our favorite clients. He was always such a kind and considerate person - a true gentleman in every way. We will miss him. Our thoughts are with you Candy, Kirsten, and Matt. We know Mark will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

My mother Dorothy B. was his patient for many years...he helped her so much..I came to participant in one session and experienced what she had been telling me. When my Mom became quite ill and was in rehab care for a short while he came to visit her...she told me Dr. Stanberry brought a party

I was out of state and couldn't be there all the time...I am so grateful for all he did. My Mom passed away in 2004 and Dr. Stanberry and I exchanged Christmas cards every year since then..I didn't hear back from him this past Dec...now I know why. He even came to my Mom's funeral...my heart goes out to all of you..Candy, I know what you must be experiencing...my husband Frank recently passed away suddenly and also young..in his fifty's...so you will especially be in my thoughts and prayers. It's hard to put into words my deepest sympathy for the loss of such a fine human being. Dr. Stanberry was kind, gentle, compassionate, and a truly rare gem. He touch my life in a very dear way and I will forever be grateful for having the honor of knowing him. God bless the family. I hope your pain fades away, healing occurs very soon, and those the beautiful memories put a smile in your heart.
