Funeral Services and Mass of Christian Burial for Marsha L. Freund, 57, a resident of Davenport, will be Saturday, August 18, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, 1923 N. Fillmore Street, Davenport. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be Friday, August 17, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main Street, downtown Davenport, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. to conclude the visitation.
Marsha passed away on Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Marsha Lynn Wellendorf was born in rural Scott County, Iowa on January 15, 1955, a daughter of Donald and Frances (Johanssen) Wellendorf. She graduated from Davenport West High School in 1973 and from Augustana College in 1982 with a degree in Accounting. She obtained her CPA that same year. She was the Finance Controller for Oystar North America, formerly Kartridg Pak, for many years.
She was united in marriage to Michael L. Freund on January 6, 1984 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, De Witt. Marsha stepped in and became a loving second mother to Mike's four sons. She loved being a mother to her ready-made family and enjoyed being involved in all their endeavors, including academics and sports. Marsha and Mike were blessed with 28 blissful years of marriage.
Marsha was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, the Professional Women Business Club, and the NCPA Society. She was very generous with her time and was always first to offer her help. She loved helping raise her stepsons and spending time with her grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to All Saints Catholic School Art Department or the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House.
Mike and the family would like to extend a special thank-you to all of the healthcare providers that helped with Marsha's care. A special thanks goes to the Oncology Department staff and especially to Dr. Sy for his care and compassion.
Surviving Marsha are her husband, Mike, Davenport; stepsons, Shane Freund, Aurora, IL, Bryan (Deb) Freund, Urbandale, IA, Michael J. Freund, Aurora, IL and Richard G. Freund, Davenport; grandchildren, Chase and Logan; siblings, Meri Jo (Larry) Patrick, Davenport and Carrie Hughes, Brady, TX; sister-in-law, Geraldine Wellendorf, Lubbock, TX; and mother-in-law, Elizabeth Freund, Eldridge, IA.
