CASSIDY, MARY BARBARA (EMRICH), 79, passed away peacefully at home, with her family by her side, Thursday, January 10, 2013, after a courageous struggle with Parkinson's Disease.

Born in Louisville, she was a graduate of St. Francis of Assisi School, Sacred Heart Academy and Ursuline College (before its merger with Bellarmine University). She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, friend and volunteer for many causes.

She was the organizer and, for 38 years, the manager of the Bargain Barn, which originally benefited the retired Ursuline sisters, and later St. Joseph's Children's Home. Barbara was the recipient of both the Angeline Award (from the Ursuline Sisters) and WLKY's Bell Award, as well as election to Bellarmine's Scarlet and Silver Society, for her many years of devoted volunteer service to many charitable organizations.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Nora Emrich; brothers, Joseph, Gerald and Vincent Emrich; and sisters, Ann Roberts and Sr. Mary Noreen, OSU.

Survivors include her beloved husband of 57 years, Alvin I. Cassidy; three daughters, Karen Cassidy (David Baughman), Kathleen Herrington (Ken) and Gerri Ann Cassidy; their son, Joseph Cassidy (Emily), of Albany, NY; 10 grandchildren, Ned Berghausen (Kate Bulinski), Katie and Joseph Berghausen, Patrick Pfeiffer (Betsy), Cassidy and Christine Herrington, Beth and Robert Cassidy and Sada and Simon Rice; her two brothers, William Emrich (Regina) and Anthony Emrich (Shirley); and her sister, Therese Fleischer.

The family wishes to express its special gratitude to Hosparus nurse Betsy Cambron and her associates and to caregiver Pam Cocanougher.

Barbara's funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday at the Church of the Holy Spirit, 3345 Lexington Road, with burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation: 1-7 p.m. Sunday at Ratterman Bros. Funeral Home, 3711 Lexington Road.

Memorial gifts in her honor may be sent to Saint Meinrad Archabbey and Seminary, 100 Hill Dr., St. Meinrad, IN, 47577.
