Mary "Midge" Bartling, 65, of Merrill, passed away Saturday, April 28, 2012, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care & Hospice Services. She was born February 14, 1947 to the late J. Miles & Dorothy (Gibson) Thompson in Lancaster, WI. Midge was united in marriage to William Bartling on May 26, 1966 in Freeport, IL. He survives. Midge was a 1965 graduate of Lancaster High School. She moved with her husband, Bill, to Merrill in 1971. Midge was a homemaker and was proud to be a stay at home mom. She had served as president of the Holy Cross Auxiliary and various bridge clubs. Midge served as a WIAA swim official and was a score keeper at most of her daughter's gymnastic meets. She was also involved in the Reading Buddies Program at Parkside Preschool. Upon retiring, she found more time to spend playing bridge and visiting her children and grandchildren. Survivors include her husband of over 45 years; Bill Bartling, Merrill; five children: Christopher (Sara) Bartling, Shakopee, MN, Kurt (Jill) Bartling, Duluth, MN, Kari (Jerry) Somsen, Webster, SD, Kimberly (Graham) Campshure, Cedar Rapids, IA, and Cathi (Brad Corta) Bartling, Waukesha, WI; 11 grandchildren: Erin & Alyssa Bartling, Aliyah, Addison & Andrew Bartling, Brittany, Kelsie, Courtney, Kaelyn & Baylie Somson and Rob Campshure; one brother: Bob (Judy) Thompson, San Antonio, TX; two sisters: Joan Pascoe, Oregon, WI, and Ann Estlund, Fort Meyers, FL. Visitation will be from 1- 4 PM Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at Waid Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Midge's name to Aspirus Comfort Care & Hospice Services.
