Matthew McFaul Cahill, a New Orleans native and computer and information technology specialist, passed away on Sunday, August 12, 2012. He was 24. Cahill was preceded in death by his beloved father, William H. "Bill" Cahill.
Matt Cahill counted himself a proud graduate of the 2006 "Katrina" class of Brother Martin High School, where he graduated with honors. In May 2012, he graduated from St. Edward's University in Austin, Texas, earning B.A. degrees in accounting and information technology. He recently returned to New Orleans to work in information technology.
He loved sailing, travel, music and philosophy, and had a wide circle of friends— he was one who never seemed to meet a stranger. While he lived in Austin for six years, Cahill grew up in New Orleans, where he was an active member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church, the Southern Yacht Club, Plantation Athletic Club and the Boy Scouts.
He is survived by his loving mother Meg McFaul Cahill, brother Jay Cahill, sister Joanie Cahill, and stepmother Hazel Sanchez Cahill, as well as many dear aunts, uncles and cousins. He will be dearly missed by family and friends.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 17, 2012 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 6201 Stratford Place, New Orleans, LA. 70131. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the William Hartley Cahill Memorial Scholarship fund at St. Edward's University, 3001 S. Congress Avenue, Austin, TX 78704.
