Hillman, Michael James, 36, of Brandon, left us suddenly on November 24, 2012. Born in the Great Lakes Naval Hospital, he lived briefly in Bath Township, Ohio, before moving to Tampa with his family at the age of two. He attended Christ the King Elementary School from kindergarten through eighth grade, and was a lifelong Parish member there. As a child, Michael patiently endured merciless teasing from his two older sisters, and fell in love with fishing, sailing, and racing remote-controlled cars. He graduated from Jesuit High School and received a degree in Business Administration from the University of Florida in 1999. He returned to school several years later, earning a Masters in Public Health in Occupational Health & Safety from the University of South Florida in 2007. He was employed with SCS Engineers as a Project and Safety Professional. Michael's life was enriched by his excellent friends, many of whom he had known since grade school and high school. He traveled often with them, across the U.S. and abroad. Most recently, he explored the ruins of Cuzco, Peru, and joined his friends for a weekend in North Carolina. Michael enjoyed football (especially the Gators and Bucs, of course) and hockey and being on the open water and fishing with friends, but his greatest love was always listening to and making music. He loved performing as a DJ, once journeying to the middle of a California desert to play under a full moon. He is survived by his loving parents, James and Rita, and siblings, Joanna (John), Kathleen (Brian), Victoria and Daniel, as well as his beloved rescue dog, Belle. He was a kind and gentle uncle to his nephew, James, and his niece, Mera. Michael was the exact middle child out of five, and now we will be missing our center forever. There will be a visitation at the funeral home on Thursday, November 29, 2012, from 5 PM until 8 PM, with a Rosary service at 6:30 PM. A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 30, 2012, at Christ the King Catholic Church at 10 AM. Memorial donations can be made in Michael's name to Heidi's Legacy Rescue -- a local dog rescue not far from Michael's home -- directly through their website, heidislegacydogrescue.com.
