Dr. Robert D. Hartman passed from this world on September 20, 2012. Robert was born to Emil and Hanna (Johnson) Hartman on their Secor, Illinois farm in 1930. Robert's parents and his older brother, Wilbur predeceased him.

Bob married Catherine Ann (Jenkins) in 1952. They had four children: Michael (Carol), Mark (Robin), Mary Beth (Robert) Barnes and Melissa (Bob) McCulloch. Melissa passed away in 1990.

Bob and Ann were also blessed with nine grandchildren: Toby (Alicia), Tyler, Jacob, Cati Barnes, Will, Molly, Melissa Ann, Ryan Barnes, and Margaret; and one great granddaughter, Gabriella.

From 1968 until his retirement in 1993, Dr. Hartman was superintendent of Carmel Clay Schools. Previously, he was assistant superintendent in Libertyville, Illinois and principal of Willard Elementary School in Evanston, Illinois. He received his EdD from the University of Illinois, and his Master's and Bachelor's Degrees from Illinois State University.

Dr. Hartman served in the US Army from 1953-1955. He was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, the Carmel Lions Club, the Carmel Chamber of Commerce and the Carmel Dad's Club. He was also a life-long Chicago Cubs fan.

A memorial Mass will be held at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel at 11:00 am on Monday, September 24. A private burial will follow. Family and friends are invited to gather on Sunday, September 23 from 3:00pm - 7:00 pm at Flanner and Buchanan-Carmel and on Monday from 10:00 am until the time of the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Dr. Robert Hartman/Melissa Hartman McCulloch Scholarship Fund c/o the Carmel Clay Education Foundation.
