Russell M. Christian, age 91, resident of Shelby died Wednesday February 6, 2013 at Shelby Pointe.
Born October 10, 1921 in Delaware, Ohio to the late Homer and Caroline (Breece) Christian he had been a Shelby resident since 1940. A graduate of Watkins High School, Russell was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during WWII in the Atlantic. Mr. Christian was employed Ohio Steel Tube retiring in 1983 after 38 years of service. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church, a 70 year member of the Shelby Masonic Lodge #350 F&AM, Al Koran Shrine, Shelby Shrine Club, Shelby Moose Club, American Legion O'Brien Post #326, VFW Post #291 and AMVETS Post #13. Russell enjoyed working in his garden.
Survivors include his daughter, Laura (Robert) Chagat of Shelby; two grandchildren, Rachael Chagat (Brian John) and Jonathan Chagat; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Dorothy in 1986; second wife, Lorinda in 2007 and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Preston (Hazel) Christian and James (Judy) Maxwell.
Graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, February 11, 2013 at Oakland Cemetery with Reverend Russel Yoak officiating. Friends may call at the Barkdull Funeral Home on Monday from 12:00-1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial expressions may be made to Hospice of North Central Ohio 1050 Dauch Drive, Ashland, OH 44805.
