Walter "Hoyt" Abbott, age 78, passed away peacefully Saturday, July 28, 2012, at his home. He was born September 12, 1933, in Cabot, Arkansas to Hoyt Malcom Abbott and Lena Belle Burrows.
Hoyt grew up in the Bayou Meto area where he was known as "Buddy Hoyt" to his friends.
He worked at the Social Security Administration and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, a member of First Baptist Church and the Young at Heart Club, and was a volunteer at St. Mary's Medical Center.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Nancy Abbott, one brother, Herbert Abbott, and three sisters, Dorothy Jones, Pearlie Abbott, and Martha Lester.
Hoyt is survived by his daughter, Patty Abbott, of Dallas, Texas, one sister Lera Stokes of West Memphis, several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many special friends.
Hoyt was a graduate of North Little Rock High School and the University of Arkansas. He was an avid Razorback fan and loved to call the Hogs. He enjoyed traveling with his daughters and working in his yard. He loved good food and socializing.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Hoyt's life Wednesday, 10:00 A.M. August 1, 2012, at Shinn Funeral Service Chapel. Burial will be Thursday 10:00 A.M. at Sumner Cemetery near Cabot, Arkansas.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, evening July 31, 2012, from 6:00 P.M. to 7:30P.M.
