Wesley Monroe Callaway, Jr. of Austin Texas passed away on July 31, 2012. He was born on March 24, 1934 in Taylor Texas to Wesley M. Callaway, Sr and Eunice Louree Callaway.

Upon moving to Beaumont Texas in 1942 with his family, he attended Beaumont schools, graduating from Beaumont High in 1952, going on to study business in college. He graduated with honors in 1956 from the University of Texas, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. While at the University of Texas he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity and later became a charter member, remaining active in alumni functions for many years. After graduation he entered the Army serving at Fort Sill in Lawton, Oklahoma. Wes later returned to Beaumont, Texas to work in the family businesses, South Coast Mortgage, Gulf Coast Insurance and later became a partner in each company. Wes, with his father, formed Apartment Management Inc. and was involved in developing many successful apartment and other commercial real estate ventures in the Golden Triangle area and in Louisiana. He obtained his Certified Property Managers designation in 1975 from the Institute of Real Estate Management. He served on the board of directors for American National Bank for many years. Wes moved to Austin in 1995 with his wife Ann, after becoming involved with Bradley F. Schlosser in the 6th and Lamar – Whole Foods Headquarters and multiple retail and office developments in the 5th and Lamar area.

An avid sportsman, Wes enjoyed fishing for redfish and speckled trout in the Gulf of Mexico. He also enjoyed countless world travels having visited every continent except Antarctica. In recent years Wes developed a special affinity for the nation of Belize, Central America. Having experienced many pleasant adventures there, he decided he wanted the nation of Belize to become his second home.

Wes is survived by his wife of 26 years, Ann, his son Wesley M. Callaway, III, daughter Julia Callaway Gwin, brother Kenneth G. Callaway, Ann's children, Leigh Forbes, Charles Colby, Patrick Colby, Hayden Colby, and sixteen grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at Weed-Corley-Fish Lake Travis Chapel, 411 RR 620 South in Lakeway.

Honorary pallbearers will be, C.C. Crutchfield, Sheldon Greenberg, The Honorable Thad Heartfield, Sam Malley, J.T. Leone, F.H. Seewald, Jr., and Jim Austin, all of Beaumont, Bradley F. Schlosser, Guy Burrous, and William vonVoss of Austin.
